Vakhan valley

Day 1

Dushanbe sightseeing. That followed visiting an informative Museum of National

Antiquities. After lunch. we move to Bekzod National Museum. Free time.

Overnight in home stay

Day 2

In the Morning we will explore Hissor village. On a wide mountain fringed plain.

Including a 18th century fortress, Darvaza-i-Ark in the hillocks with an excellent

views. In front of the fortress are two plain medressas dating from the 16th

century containing a small museum, Nearby are the foundations of a

caravanserai built in 1808. Will have lunch in a pleasant chaikhana. After lunch

we will head back to Dushanbe and visit the museum of musical instruments.

Free time – back to home stay

Day 3

Transfer to Kulob excellent views.

We will stop for photos shooting and a picnic. Visiting a small museum in Hulbuk

before Kulob after that continue to the town mausoleum of Sheikh Said-

Hamadoni dating from the first Islam period. Roaming in the bazaar. Overnight in

home stay.

Day 4

Transfer to Kalaikum. The breathtaking landscape along the Panj river (Amu

Darya). Across the river: Afghanistan. We will drive along the river, having picnic

in the pristine nature. Overnight in home stay

Day 5

Drive to Khorog along the Panj river. After Vanj valley we will enter into the Pamir

region. On the way you will see many different villages. Views of the valley are

amazing. Lunch in a Chaikana. Overnight in a traditional Pamiri house

Day 6

You will spend the full day in Khorog. Visit of the very interesting Regional

Museum. 5km east of town explore the Pamir Botanical Garden that has couple

of hundreds of hectares of parkland and is the world's second highest botanical

garden. Reaching 3900 m. Overnight in same home stay


Day 7

Continue to Ishkashim. On the way stop for hot springs at

Garm-e-Chasma. After that we reach the mouth of the Wakhan River valley. This

is where the 19th century Great Game ended, between the Russian and British

empires. From here the road continues up along the north side of the river. There

are amazing views of the Pamirs to the left and the Hindu Kush to the right. We

will stop along the way for a scenic picnic. Overnight in Guesthouse 

Day 8

Drive to Langar. We will admire the Khakha Fortress, dating from the third

century B C and rising from a platform of natural rock. Just 300m further on is

the interesting Ismaili mazar (tomb) of Shah-i-Mardan Hazrati Ali. After that we

move to next Zoroastrian "Fortress of Fire Worshippers"

Further up the hillside are the hot springs at Bibi Fatima. minerals and very silty,
